To use as a mask: Using a glass or ceramic container and wooden spoon (do not use metal tools), combine red clay with sufficient liquid to make a paste. Let it sit 2 or 3 minutes. Using fingertips, spread a consistent layer to fully cover the skin (for the purpose of a mask, avoid getting clay in mouth, eyes, ears, nose.) Relax, think some peaceful thoughts and allow the clay to dry (about 4 minutes for sensitive skin; 8 minutes for normal skin). The mask tightens as it dries, pulling dirt and impurities from the skin to the surface. Rinse thoroughly with warm water, pat skin dry and follow with your choice of natural toner and moisturizer.

Alternatives to water in the clay paste are almost endless: Lemon juice, essential oil waters (just a drop or two) or herb tisanes made from dried peppermint, chamomile, comfrey, calendula, ginger or lavender. Also, powdered herbs, such as marshmallow, calendula, slippery elm bark, can be added to the clay before mixing.

what else you should know

moroccan
red clay

Moroccan red clay is considered one of the more rare and pure clays of the earth. It is also known as Rhassoul (also Ghassoul) clay, which literally means "that which washes" in Arabic. Once reserved for Egyptian royalty, Moroccan Rhassoul clay has been used as cleanser and conditioner for hair and skin for centuries and continues to be a popular spa treatment in many world-class retreats. Abundant in magnesium, iron, calcium and potassium, red clay is reputed to clarify and moisturize the skin while improving texture and elasticity. In the same way that a paste of clay is applied to the face and body as a cleaner or detoxifying mask, Moroccan red clay can be used to regularly cleanse the hair and scalp instead of shampoo (although a dab of conditioner is recommended).

Background: Red Clay is an excellent moisturizing and cleansing facial clay.

Moroccan red clay is considered one of the more rare and pure clays of the Earth. It has been used for health and beauty for centuries and continues to grow in popularity. From home spas to world-class retreats, the beneficial effects of Moroccan red clay are well known.

It is appropriate to use as an addition to your homemade beauty products, and you will find red clay in many commercial beauty products like soaps, scrubs, masques and shampoos. Its tendencies to readily cleanse, exfoliate, absorb impurities and detoxify the skin, combined with its ability to improve conditions of dryness, scaliness and to clarify skin texture and firmness make it very desirable.

Applications: Using glass, pottery or wooden container, (do not use metals) combine red clay with sufficient liquid to make a paste. Let it sit 2 or 3 minutes. Using fingertips, spread a consistent layer to fully cover the skin (for the purpose of a masque, avoid getting clay in mouth, eyes, ears, nose.) Sit, if possible, and relax, maybe think some peaceful thoughts, and allow the clay to dry. (4 min. for sensitive skin, 8 minutes for normal skin.) As it dries it tightens. It is working and removing impurities. Wash thoroughly and gently to remove the masque. Follow with your choice of natural toner and moisturizer.

Alternatives to water in the clay masque-paste are almost endless: Lemon juice, essential oil waters (just a drop or two), herb tisanes (peppermint, chamomile, comfrey, calendula, ginger, lavender, etc.) Powdered herbs can be added to the clay before mixing (marshmallow, calendula, slippery elm bark, etc.)

Description: This iron-rich red clay is mined from the Atlas Mountains in Eastern Morocco. It is processed to remove graininess and impurities, then sun-dried and powdered to perfection.
