But before we get into that, it’s important to know these teas do not contain actual tea leaves from the Camellia sinensis tea plant, so you shouldn’t really call them tea. They’re usually referred to as tisanes (tuh zan, American pronounciation; tuh zein, British pronounciation). Or you could of course refer to them as herbal teas or herbal infusions. These teas can consist of one botanical, or a blend of botanicals. But again, no actual tea!

The tisane category consists of flowers such as lavender, chamomile, and hibiscus. There are spices such as cardamom, ginger, and cloves. You’ll also see a range of herbs, fruits, berries, and leaves. These are just a few examples of the range of botanical ingredients you’ll find.
