WHOLE FOODS 2022 TREND #4: HIBISCUS

Hibiscus has been trending as a flavor. Traditionally, the botanical has been used in tea. It has a sweet yet tart taste and gives liquids a beautiful deep pink color. The flavor mixes well with other fruits and spices like orange peel and cinnamon. More recently, beverage brands have been using Hibiscus to flavor seltzers, kombucha, and alcoholic beverages. Hibiscus is diverse—it’s a beautiful garden flower that attracts pollinators, but can be used in a variety of cooking and cosmetic applications.

WHOLE FOODS 2022 TREND #5: ZERO ALCOHOL SPIRITS

Juniper, coriander, and Licorice are common and conventional ingredients in spirits like gin, aperitifs, and bitters. Now, these same botanicals—and more non-traditional ones—are being used in zero alcohol spirits. Brands are using herbs and spices for the taste but also for their mood-altering qualities in place of alcohol.
