This body butter combines soothing shea butter, coconut oil, vitamin e oil and lavender essential oil for a rich and moisturizing cream. Not only does lavender help calm and soothe dry, red and irritated skin, but its aromatic effects can help induce a state of relaxation. The addition of vitamin e oil helps to fade scars and heal skin as well as acting as a natural preservative for this body butter. It’s easy, fun, inexpensive and makes the perfect addition to your self-care routine (think calming pre-bedtime routine!)

Ingredients

  • 1 cup raw, unrefined shea butter
  • ½ cup coconut oil
  • 7-10 drops vitamin E oil
  • 40-50 drops of lavender essential oil
  • 2 small 4 oz. jars

Instructions

  1. Melt the shea butter and the coconut oil over a double broiler. If you do not have a double broiler, you can make one by placing a glass bowl over a saucepan filled with 1-3 inches of water. First, bring the water to a boil and then reduce to a simmer and place the glass bowl on top. The glass bowl should rest comfortably on top and not be touching the water directly.
  2. After both the shea butter and coconut oil are completely melted, remove the bowl from the heat and let cool for about 30 minutes at room temperature. At this point you will stir in the lavender essential oil and the vitamin E oil.
  3. Place the bowl in the freezer for about 35 minutes to thicken up. It will be ready when it looks like whipper butter or frosting.
  4. Once the body butter is set, mix it together and scoop into a clean glass jar.
  5. Enjoy! For best results, use on the body after the shower, when skin is slightly damp.
  6. Store this body butter at room temperature and away from direct heat or sunlight.
