DIY calendula & coconut body butter
Coconut oil is solid at room temperature and creates a protective barrier on the skin, which allows it to retain moisture. Calendula contains calendulin, rutin and beta-carotene, which offers anti-inflammatory and antioxidant benefits for the skin.
4 tablespoons solid coconut oil
2 tablespoons cocoa butter
2 tablespoons unrefined shea butter
10 drops calendula essential oil
Melt the coconut oil, cocoa butter and shea butter together in the top of a double boiler. Remove from heat and let cool for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally. Add the calendula essential oil and stir again. Pour into a clean container. The butter will harden within 24 hours but continue to change consistency for several more hours and will be ready to use in 48 hours.
