Ginger is a perennial plant indigenous to India and Malaysia and now
cultivated in throughout Southeast Asia, the Caribbean and East Africa.
It is a staple ingredient in Asian soups, curries and kimchi. It is also
commonly added to tea blends and used to flavor alcoholic and carbonated
beverages, such as ginger brandy, ginger beer and ginger ale.
In the west, ginger is most commonly used as a baking spice. In fact,
powdered ginger root is a key ingredient in pumpkin pie, ginger snaps
and ginger bread.
