Cardamom, a member of the ginger family, is one of the world’s most expensive spices following vanilla and saffron. It is used extensively in Middle Eastern, Indian and Asian cuisines, where it is used to season curries, teas, liquors and confections. Powdered cardamom is also an ingredient in Julekake, a Norwegian candied bread traditionally made at Christmas.

Cardamom is often consumed in a hot beverage after a meal in many parts of the world. In addition to helping to neutralize bad breath odor, the spice is reputed to stimulate digestion and help to prevent bloating and gas.
