Spiked with brandy and laced with ginger and allspice berries, this classic winter drink is a party favorite. Be sure to set aside some “virgin” cider aside for the kids, perhaps identified by the addition of a candy cane in each mug instead of a cinnamon stick. For a smaller crowd, reduce the recipe by half.
6 cups apple cider 4 slices fresh ginger 4 allspice berries 6 oz brandy
Place the cider, ginger and allspice in a saucepan and bring to a boil. Remove from heat and cover; let steep for 15 minutes. Strain, reserving liquid. Pour or ladle cider into individual heat-proof mugs. Add a splash of brandy to each mug (or measure about ¾ oz. each). Serve warm with a cinnamon stick for stirring.
