Tangerine essential oil has a fresh, orange-like fragrance that is said to help ease tension, improve mood and re-energize body and spirit. The oil is also widely used in commercial perfumery.
Our tangerine essential oil is produced from Citrus reticulate, a small citrus fruit native to southeastern Asia. Although the fruit is also referred to as mandarin orange, the name technically applies to more than a dozen varieties of mandarins with "kid-glove" rinds, meaning they have thin, loose skins that are easy to peel by hand. Tangerine is an alternate name for fruits in this group.
Tangerine essential oil is used in aromatherapy to help ease anxiety and to promote balance. Because the oil is also reputed to exert antispasmodic effects, it is used in massage work to target muscle and nerve pain. Several active compounds are responsible for these qualities, most notably a-pinene, myrcene, limonene, citronellal, linalool, geraniol, thymol and carvone.
