Our powered mandrake root powder is obtained from American mandrake (Podophyllum peltatum), which should not be confused with the European mandrake species. Every part of American mandrake is highly toxic and should not be ingested, even in small amounts. However, the root also lends its cytotoxic properties to topical applications owing to several potent chemicals, namely podophyllotoxin and its derivatives, etoposide and teniposide.
