Pygeum, also known as African cherry and African plum, is an evergreen canopy tree widely distributed throughout the African continent. As its nicknames suggest, it is in the same family as many familiar stone fruits, such as plums, cherries, apricots and peaches. While the pink-tinted, almond-scented hardwood is used in construction, the tree is cultivated to supply the supplement and pharmaceutical industries with Pygeum bark, which has a long history of traditional use and potential pharmacological applications.
