plant overview
pretty in pink
Malva, also known as Musk Rose and Musk Mallow, is bushy, flowering plant
that is originally native to Europe but now naturalized in North America.
Like its cousin marshmallow, malva produces clusters of rose-like pink
flowers and pleasantly scented leaves. The unripe seedpods, affectionately
called “cheeses,” are added fresh to salads. The fresh and dried leaf and
flowers are also used in cooking, the latter providing subtly sweet flavor
and a pop of color to baked goods, soups and other foods. The flowers are
also used in herbal tea blends and in natural cosmetics.
