Bacopa monnieri, commonly known as Brahmi, is a perennial aquatic herb in the figwort family that is native to India, Asia, Africa, Europe and Australia. While it forms dense mats in marshes and along riverbanks, it is also cultivated as an ornamental for ponds and other landscaping water elements. Historically, the plant has been used by Ayurvedic practitioners for centuries to counter anxiety and stress and enhance mental clarity.
