Carrot seed can be found throughout Europe. The Wild Carrot has hairy stems and odourless leaves and produces flat umbels of tiny white flowers. These die back, leaving a head of pungent seed, which have been used for hundreds of years as a digestive tonic. In Western herbal medicine, carrot seed powder is used to ease fluid retention and indigestion. The essential oil from seeds is earthy and subtle, with some woody notes. Carrot seed essential oil has been known to create an inner sense of peace.
