Background:
The remarkable natural qualities of clays have long been appreciated worldwide and are used by humans and animals worldwide, every day.
The montmorillonite clay Bentonite is a medicinal form of earth used for centuries for nutritional supplementation and detoxification. It is increasingly prescribed by practitioners of alternative medicine as an economical and effective internal cleanser.
This highly purified bentonite is used extensively in pharmaceutical products, personal care products and cosmetics. It is water-washed to remove impurities and lower any grit content. It meets the standards of the National Formulary for use in pharmaceutical preparations such as, acne lotions, medicinal skin creams, ointments, skin creams, salves, tablet binding, powder preparations, and much more.
It is used in cosmetic preparations as a pigment binder and suspending agent. It is effective as a thickener in lotions, creams, liquid facial cleansers, anti-dandruff shampoos, body powders, deodorant sprays, deodorant sticks, and many others.
Bentonite is used for sealing freshwater ponds, irrigation ditches, reservoirs, sewage and industrial water lagoons, and in grouting permeable ground. It is an ingredient in detergents, fungicides, sprays, cleansers, polishes, ceramic, paper, cosmetics and applications requiring suspension and gellant properties.
In 167AD the Greek herbalist and physician Galen visited Hephaistias in the Aegean and provided an account of the uses of Lemnian earth and Samian earth, which appear also to have had bentonitic qualities. Kimolian earth appears also to have been bentonitic clay.
Applications: Taken internally, Bentonite can absorb pathogens, viruses, mold, pesticides, herbicides, remove radioactive residues and more. Bentonite’s drawing properties and ease of elimination facilitate the removal of intestinal toxins. Deep cleansing optimizes the body's natural healing abilities. Detoxification improves organ function and optimizes cell and tissue repair and provides resistance to infection.
Clay can help eliminate cysts, improves intestinal regularity, relieve chronic constipation, diarrhea, indigestion, and ulcers. remove parasites removal from the intestines, provide allergy relief, and provide a positive effect on skin problems and anemia and acne. It reduces heartburn and indigestion by absorbing excess stomach acids.
Bentonite Clay, alone or mixed with herb powders, can be applied as a paste for use on sprains, bruises, plant rashes (poison oak, ivy, stinging nettles), and on insect bites.
Clay facial masques, poultices, and baths remove toxins directly through the skin (the largest organ of elimination of the human body.)
Using glass, pottery or wooden container, (do not use metals) combine bentonite with sufficient liquid to make a pasty gel. Let it sit 2 or 3 minutes. Using fingertips, spread a consistent layer to fully cover the skin (for the purpose of a masque, avoid getting clay in mouth, eyes, ears, nose.) Sit, if possible, and relax, think some healing thoughts, and allow the clay to become dry. (4 min. for more sensitive skin and 10-12 minutes for normal skin.) As it tightens, it is working and removing impurities. Wash thoroughly and gently to remove the masque. Follow with a natural toner and moisturizer.
Alternatives to water in the clay masque-paste are almost endless: apple cider vinegar, essential oil waters (just a drop or two), herb tisanes (peppermint, chamomile, comfrey, calendula, ginger, lavender, etc.) Powdered herbs can be added to the clay before mixing (marshmallow, orange peel powder, slippery elm bark
Description: Bentonite is a purified, natural cream colored clay from deposits of weathered volcanic ash layered upon an ancient seabed formations. It is a highly mineralized clay with a 2:1 expanding crystal lattice and very plastic properties..
Bentonite- in response to water: "The sandwiched, stacked clay platelets shift apart. Bentonite attracts water to its negative face and magnetically holds water in place. This unique characteristic causes Bentonite to absorb 7 to 10 times its own weight in water,. It is capable of swelling up to 18 times its dry volume. Its molecular structure changes with the addition of water producing an electrical charge to which toxins bind. One quart of moistened bentonite presents a surface area of nearly 1,000 square yards!
