Natural Remedies for Acne

Witch Hazel

Witch hazel comes from the bark and leaves of the witch hazel shrub. Witch hazel is used for many health benefits, especially to the skin. It is used to treat many skin conditions, such as acne, because it is gentle and non-irritating to the skin. Witch hazel contains ingredients that work as a disinfectant. Applying witch hazel can reduce the bacteria that causes acne. Use straight from the bottle with a cotton ball twice daily. Never use more than three times a day.

Honey

Using honey is a popular natural remedy to help get rid of acne. Honey contains anti-oxidants and is extremely sticky. The anti-oxidants help make the skin look younger and anti-microbial ingredients protect the skin from getting infected. It can be used alone or with other ingredients like apples or yogurt. If you are using plain honey, use filtered honey and spread a layer on the face. Honey can also be mixed with a raw egg and vitamin E oil as a facial mask.

Apple Cider Vinegar

Apple Cider Vinegar is an effective natural remedy used to treat acne. It kills bacteria, balances the pH level in our skin, and absorbs oil from the skin. Add water to one part vinegar and 3 parts of water. The solution can be made more powerful by using 2 parts water to the solution for severe cases of acne. However, stronger solutions should ot be left on the skin overnight. Use a cotton ball and apply the Apple Cider Vinegar to the skin leaving it sit for ten minutes and rinse. Use three times a day.

Tea Tree Oil

Tree tea oil is found in many gels, creams, and shampoos. It comes from the leaves of a plant called Melaleuca alternifolia found in California. Tea tree oil has a substance called terpinen-4-ol. This is what has the antimicrobial power.

Aloe Vera

The sap found an aloe vera plant has been shown to help acne. Aloe vera has an anti-inflammatory agent that helps irritated pimples. Place a small amount of topical aloe vera gel on to the areas that are inflamed and allow it to sit. It will help the redness and work as a pimple spot treatment. Aloe vera can also be used as a moisturizer an can be applied as a facial mask at night.
