For centuries, sandalwood essential oil has been used for ceremonial purposes. While the Egyptians included the oil in their embalming practices, followers of the Hindu religion regarded the oil has sacred and holy. Today, sandalwood oil is still an important component of India’s traditional health system of Ayurveda, and is considered an aid in meditation and in Tantric yoga.
Sandalwood's fixative properties lend it to being used as an ingredient in personal care items such as soaps, lotions, shampoos, and bath oils.
