Produced in the area around Bergamo (Northern Italy), bergamot is a type of bitter orange with greenish-yellow skin. The fruit is produced for the sole purpose of extracting essential oil from the peel. Bergamot oil was an ingredient in the earliest formula of "eau de Cologne", in the 18th century. Bergamot oil has a delightful aroma with strong citrus notes. To cleanse and heal infected cuts use a hot compress with 2 drops of Bergamot and 4 drops of Tea Tree essential oil.
Safety: Avoid massaging it into your skin if you are going out into strong sunlight. Bergamot oil is phototoxic.
